Toddler Trip Tip #1

2008 November 13

Since our vacation, I haven’t had a chance to tell all the awesome stories of our trip.

As a way to share some of our fun times, I’m introducing “Toddler Trip Tips” – our look back at some of the lessons we learned, from doing a major trip with a 21-month-old toddler. As I love to hear other stories, please feel free to share your “trip tips,” on traveling with kids at any age!

Toddler Trip Tip #1

With airline regulations on luggage size and weight becoming more strict, use your toddler as your official judge on if your bags fall within the guidelines.

If your suitcase weighs less than your toddler, your luggage is within most airlines’ weight requirement. If you can fit more than the lower half of your toddler into the bag, the bag must be checked, as it is too big to be a carry-on. (I’m concerned that the average lunchbox is about to be considered the maximum size allowable for carry-on luggage, with the rate things are changing.)

Also, toddlers can be used to test durability.

Little Dude makes certain our luggage is of the finest quality and can handle the toughest of beatings.

Little Dude was quite excited to make it home, after our ten-day trip, and was quick to help unpack. He’s more than happy to wear his “ears,” as long as we call it a Mickey “hat.” Which leads me to the other souvenir he received on this trip – his Winnie-the-Pooh hat.

Little Dude models the infamous "Pooh hat."

Do you have any idea how difficult it is to keep from laughing, when your child is running around telling everyone about his “Pooh hat?” Especially when he says, “Pooh hat,” over and over and over again, and loudly? Yes, we are terrible people with toilet humor, but the looks we would get, until they realized he had Winnie-the-Pooh on his hat…

OMGoodness, but doesn’t he look adorable in those ears!

When Joe and I were engaged, I bought is “sort of” matching shirts from the Disney Catalog. Joe’s had Pooh on it, and I think mine had Eeyore… Anyway, we went to the zoo with my niece and as we were getting on the zoo train, the worker says to Joe, “You’ve got Pooh on your shirt.” *lol* … Talk about toilet humor. ;)

so young to have started his first carrier — luggage verifier!
but he looks so cute as he works — important to love your job.

also..nothing wrong with potty humour — we all laugh.

A good idea to share your toddler tips! There will be many who benefit. I wonder if I should start sharing tips on traveling with teens…nah, still learning there! :-)

Julie – We made a lot of “Pooh” on the head jokes, too, I’ll admit – only amongst ourselves, though.

Andrea – I recommend buying what you need when you get to your destination now. All airlines are now charging to just be allowed to carry anything, from the looks of it.

Storm – I believe in starting them young when it comes to work. ;-)

Debra – The Pooh hat was a clearance item, too, so just head to Florida to get one. ;-)

    Brenda – Thank you!

Kweenmama – The goal is to keep it fun while I recall the memories. Traveling with teens – it could be some of the same tips when it comes to how long they last in a vehicle, while on the road.
